A JOURNEY THROUGH NATURE AND TRADITION: CABUYA SNORKELING TOUR

Where Ocean Meets Ancestry: Snorkeling Tour to Cemetery Island

This 3-hour experience is more than just a snorkeling trip — it’s a journey through the natural and cultural richness of the southern Nicoya Peninsula.

We begin with a scenic boat ride along the coastline, where — depending on the season — it’s possible to spot humpback whales, sea turtles, and dolphins. The calm rhythm of the ocean sets the tone for a meaningful experience that connects nature, community, and tradition.

Our main destination is Cemetery Island, a small and beautiful islet just off the coast of Cabuya. This sacred place has been used as a burial ground by local families for generations — a tradition that continues to this day. Walking among the simple, sea-facing tombs offers a quiet, moving encounter with the region’s deep cultural roots and its enduring respect for the ocean.

After visiting the island and learning about its history, we slip into the water for a relaxed snorkeling session over rocky sea beds and sandy patches. You may encounter small tropical fish, sea urchins, and other marine life typical of this unique coastal environment.

Before returning, we cruise around Cabo Blanco Island, offering a rare glimpse of one of Costa Rica’s most remote and biodiverse protected areas — a perfect ending to a day of soft adventure, cultural insight, and coastal beauty
