Freediving in Costa Rica is like nothing else. We consider the world below the waterline to be indescribable, despite the countless hours we have spent down there ourselves. Thanks to our experienced AIDA certified instructors, you will be able to experience it too; you will find yourself in a place you never thought your body would ever get.

In our experience, the best diving spots in Costa Rica have a way of changing the divers who visit, and we can’t wait to bring you to the magic of Santa Teresa.

Whether you come with us to do a fun dive, decide to take your course or do some training, you will be safe at all times, and you will also have a lot of fun! We will help you spend as much time as possible diving in the deep blue of Costa Rica and its unique world under the waves. We have AIDA certified instructors and you will receive the best guidance possible, whether you are new to freediving or experienced.

FREEDIVING COSTA RICA:
OUR COURSES

Gain a basic understanding of freediving, including relaxation techniques, breathholds, finning, duck dives, and mental focus. Perfect for beginners who want to explore the underwater world or surfers who want to gain more confidence with breatholds and O2 management. The student can choose to realize the course between the pool or the ocean.

  • Prerequisites
    Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent)
    Be able to swim at least 100m non-stop
  • Requirements
    None
  • Minimum water sessions
    1

You don’t need to bring any special equipment. Our diving vacations are designed to cater to you, even if you still struggle to stay underwater for more than a few seconds.

But, if you do have more experience, you’ll find new experience from our higher courses…

You will learn relaxation, breathing, finning and safety techniques in our pool. Then, you will apply those skills in the sea and combine them with the basic skills of open water freediving, such as equalizing, duck diving, vertical swimming, body positioning, turns and use of buoyancy.

  • Prerequisites
    Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent)
    Can swim at least 200m non-stop without fins or at least 300m non-stop with mask, fins and snorkel
  • Requirements
    2 minutes STA; 40 meters DYN, 12 meters CWT, theoretical exam
  • Minimum water sessions

In this course, you will further develop skills from previous levels, gain new skills and a higher knowledge of safety procedures and techniques.
The new techniques you will learn are free-fall, Frenzel Equalization, the use of training tables, the risks of increasing and decreasing pressure and, also, how to minimize these risks. You will train these skills in Static Apnoea, Dynamic Apnoea, Free Immersion and Constant Weight.

  • Prerequisites
    Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent)
    Have completed the AIDA2 course or have completed the AIDA2 Crossover Evaluation if crossing over from another freediving agency
  • Requirements
    2:45 minutes STA; 55 meters DYN, 24 meters CWT, theoretical exam
  • Minimum water sessions

Learn deep freediving beyond fun freediving. You will learn new techniques, such as FRC diving, mouth-fill equalization and packing, as well as managing open water equipment, safety procedures, stretching and diets, to prepare your body for a pro level.

  • Prerequisites
    Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent)
    Have completed the AIDA 3 course or have completed the AIDA 3 Crossover Evaluation if crossing over from another freediving agency
    Have completed a course in First Aid with CPR within the last two years
  • Requirements
    3:30 minutes STA; 70 meters DYN, 32 meters CWT, theoretical exam

DEFINITIONS

Static (STA)
Holding your breath as long as possible, while lying still and face-down on the surface of the water.
Dynamic (DYN)
Swimming distance horizontally underwater, usually in a swimming pool, whilst wearing bi-fins or a monofin
Constant Weight (CWT)
Diving to depth and back, with bi-fins or a monofin, wearing the same amount of weight for the descent and ascent.
Free Immersion (FIM)
Descend or ascend without any type of propulsion, just your hands pulling the rope.
